Offagna is a town in the province of Ancona of 1931 inhabitants. It is registered in the club of the most beautiful villages in Italy and has been awarded the orange flag since 2013.
Not much is known about the history of this town; the first news comes when some Germanic nobles are granted the Marche area by the archbishop of Ravenna in the Middle Ages.
Around the XII-XV century its history was common to that of Osimo. In 1445 it was incorporated by the city of Ancona at the behest of Pope Eugene IV, under which it became one of the approximately twenty castles of Ancona and therefore between 1454 and 1456 the current fortress was built, with the intention of defending the border of the Aspio river. After 1532, the end of the Anconitana Republic, it was part of the Papal States until the unification of Italy. Despite the few historical reliefs, the invoice of the works of some noble palaces, but above all the perfect conservation, attest to its significant importance. The Rocca di Offagna is the main city monument and one of the most important defensive works of the Castles of Ancona. It was built by the Ancona inhabitants in 1454 and after many restorations it now has a rather intact aspect. The whole has a square plan with the corner tower and a central male.
Villa Montegallo, another interesting monument, is a construction from the 1500s that bears decorations by Niccolò Pomarancio.
