Born in Potenza Picena in 1925, Mario Clementoni graduated from the "Montani" Industrial Institute in Fermo. After a first working experience in a musical instrument company in Pesaro, he had the great intuition of "inventing" a new market segment in a historical phase in which the Italian industry looked with interest above all to the basic necessities to fill the difficulties of the post-war period. The challenge he decided to face was to elevate the game from a simple pastime, first to an element of aggregation of the family, and later making it a real "educational tool".

The adventure began in 1963, in the garage of the house, where together with his wife, Mrs. Matilde Brualdi Clementoni and a few workers, he began to produce his first game, the famous Tombola of the song, a huge market success, inspired by one of the most important customs phenomena of the time, the San Remo Festival. In 1967 Mario Clementoni, the "Mr. Mario" for his employees, invented the Sapientino brand, which over time has become synonymous with educational games thanks to a long series of well-known toys, such as the famous "Spinotti", based on the mechanism of the association , designed to support the child in growth through the language most familiar to him, play. There are many "moments" that have marked the company's history such as the historic agreement with Disney, of 1971, which kicked off the production of the well-known Puzzles for children, still protagonists of the company's rich catalog. Among the most famous games we can also mention Together (1989), the quiz game with 3,000 questions created by authors such as Andreotti, Arbore, Ciotti, Costanzo, De Crescenzo and Gawronski, and Computer Kid (1991) first a game that later became the progenitor of a line of toy computers, a great sales success that lasted over twenty years. Among the many awards received, he loved to mention the prestigious honoris causa degree in Architecture that the University of Camerino had awarded him in 2005 for being an entrepreneur able to look far and capable of making generations of children grow and entertain. That of "Mr. Mario" was a beautiful adventure, which began with a formidable intuition and continued for almost 50 years, from challenge to challenge, with determination, courage and foresight. The constant attention and constant interest in the world of the child were the real engine and the great passion that animated his commitment and that today permeate the work of his four children and all the collaborators who carry on his project, a difficult but possible project, today a challenge won. Surrounded by the affection of his great family, "Mr. Mario" passed away on 9 October 2012 in Recanati.
