La frazione o località di Montefiore dista 9,11 chilometri dal Comune di Recanati di cui essa fa parte.
The village or area of Montefiore is 9.11 kilometers from the Municipality of Recanati to which it belongs. Among the frescoes in the “Sala Del Consiglio” in Recanati, looking up to the sky, you can admire the painting depicting the Castle of Montefiore, executed in 1889 by Tassi di Perugia. This work is the evidence of the almost millennial link between the city, the population and the places that were long disputed by the neighboring municipalities and in particular by Osimo and Montefano. The village was built on the border between the Lombard settlements of the Duchy of Spoleto and the Byzantines of Pentapoli, on the top of a hill overlooking the western part of the Musone and Potenza valleys. The castle, built by the people of Recanati at the end of the thirteenth century, is visible from Recanati and from all the surrounding landscapes, up to the sea, Monte Conero and the villages of the hills that surround it. The tower, located in the center of the Castle and forty meters high, is believed to have been erected to spot and report dangers and attacks. The church, dedicated to San Biagio, was built as a parish in 1462. The village exceeded 300 "souls" in the seventeenth century; in the nineteenth century, it rose to 703. The transformations from a walled castle to a rural village was found in the architectural features that led to continuous interventions. Finally in 2000, the restoration work of the Castle started but it is still not open to the inside Right now Montefiore is the destination of every visitor who wishes to know better the noble traditions of people that preserve the memory of ancient music and dances of the "Castellana" and want to understand the poetry and the beauties of the sweet landscape that is between the valleys of Musone and Potenza, between the sea and the blue mountains. |
