The alley of S. Michele is one of the most suggestive corners of the city of Recanati.
It is alongside the Persiani Theater and shows a panoramic view that goes from the Sibillini Mountains to the Adriatic Sea.
The name refers to the archangel Michael remembered for defending the faith in God against the hordes of Satan. Michael, commander of the celestial militias, first with Lucifer (Satan) in representing the angelic couple, then separated himself from Satan and the angels who operated the split from God, remaining faithful to Him, while Satan and his hosts fall into the Underworld .
In the Catholic liturgical calendar it is celebrated as "St. Michael the Archangel" on 29 September, with St. Gabriel the Archangel and St. Raphael the Archangel.
The Church of San Michele was formerly called the Church of San Michele in Ponticello, after a bridge that could have been the conjunction of the ends of a valley in the church area. It is one of the oldest in Recanati, it already existed in the year 1234. In about 1650 with the Bull of Innocent XII it was joined as a parish to the Church of San Flaviano. In 1783 it was restored to a design by Carlo Orazio Leopardi.
