The City Library of Recanati was inaugurated on October 20, 1959.

The spirit that enlivened the creation of this service was linked to the introduction of the post-war City Councils when the need arose to establish City Libraries in order to improve popular culture, faithful to the principle that democracy thrives and lives only in the emancipation of the people.

The City Administration therefore, in the presence of 240 participants, inaugurated the City Library in the Town Hall (where the Electoral Office is currently located).

biblioteca2It was then moved to Corso Persiani, where in the early XXI century it was enlarged and restructured. The Library is currently able to perform an excellent service for citizens, students, both from Recanati and neighboring countries. There are also numerous requests from scholars to consult the books of the Benedettucci Library. This Library, considered to be one of the best in the Marche Region, collects around 45,000 volumes, 25 incunabulum, rare and unique prints, precious manuscripts.

biblioteca3There is a section dedicated to Loreto, Recanati, Marche Region and Theology. The generic section is significant. The Leopardian section has been transferred to the Leopardian Studies National Center. In 1963, after long negotiations between the Municipality of Recanati and the Church of S. Filippo, the Mayor of that time, Dr. Franco Foschi, asked the City Council the approval of the agreement scheme for the transfer of use to the Municipality of Recanati of the private library dedicated to Father Clemente Benedettucci. In 1964, after a renovation of the spaces, the abovementioned library became part of the City Library (the agreement was reconfirmed even if with modification, on 01/10/2007 and will remain in force until 31/12/2015).

THE RECANATI CITY LIBRARY HAS JOINED THE NATIONAL PROJECT “BORN TO READ”.

At the Recanati City Library there is a loan service for recorded books (audiobooks) on DVD in collaboration with the Association "Friends of Verbania spoken book" and Recanati Lions Club.

Users must register in the Library with appropriate forms and submit medical certification, after this they will be instructed by operators to have free access to online borrowing.
