The city of Recanati owes the construction of the Capuchins Monastery to Sister Maria Spagnuola known as "the Capuchin" and to Paolo Massucci.
Sister Maria obtained in 1586, from Pope Sixtus V, a brief for the construction of a monastery of Capuchin nuns which was presented to Monsignor Rutilio Benzoni, then Bishop of Recanati.
The place chosen for the Monastery and Church was Montemorello.
On August 14, 1587, construction work began and it was Mons. Benzoni who laid the first stone in the foundations of the Monastery and placed a Cross in those of the Church.
The building was built respecting the canons of the other existing Capuchin monasteries.
On May 12, 1595, three nuns from the Capuchin convent of Perugia arrived in Recanati, the Abbess Suor Margherita, the Vicar Sister Agata and the Caretaker Suor Angelica, accompanied by their confessor and two Perugian ladies to attend the dressing of forty girls who were about to take the dress.
It was May 15, 1565 and it marked the beginning of the Capuchin Monastery.
