Castelnuovo fa parte del Comune di Recanati, in provincia di Macerata, nella regione Marche.
La frazione o località di Castelnuovo dista 2,62 chilometri dal medesimo comune di Recanati di cui essa fa parte. Recanati si andò formando a poco a poco con la riunione di alcuni piccoli luoghi, fabbricati sopra il dorso di un medesimo colle: Castello di Monte Morello/Castello di San Vito, altrimenti detto Borgo Muzio; Monte Volpino e il borgo di Castelnuovo,(sorto come tutti gli altri borghi del tempo ai piedi del castello feudale) il quale sembra che in origine si chiamasse il Castello dei Ricinati.
Dagli Annali di Monaldo Leopardi: “Il nome di Castelnuovo potrebbe contrastare con questa supposizione; ma probabilmente quando si unirono in un solo paese gli altri castelletti che formarono Recanati, gli abitatori del castello più antico lo abbandonarono almeno in parte, salendo ad abitare la nostra terra, di aria e di aspetto migliore, perché fatta sul più alta del colle. Indi cresciuto il numero degli abitanti, il paese nuovo venne a poco a poco congiunto con il vecchio castello, cui forse allora si sarà dato il nome di Castelnuovo. Intanto le tradizioni locali, alle quali si deve sempre accordare gran peso, vogliono che il borgo o contrada di Castelnuovo sia la parte più antica della città.” 

Castelnuovo is part of the Municipality of Recanati, in the province of Macerata, in the Marche Region.

The village or place of Castelnuovo is 2.62 kilometers from the same town of Recanati to which it belongs. Recanati, gradually formed with some small places, built on the back of the same hill: Monte Morello Castle/San Vito Castle, otherwise known as Borgo Muzio; Monte Volpino and the village of Castelnuovo, (built like all the other villages of the time at the foot of the feudal castle) which seems to have been originally called the Castle of Ricinati.

From the Annals of Monaldo Leopardi: “The name of Castelnuovo could contrast with this supposition; but probably when the other castles that formed Recanati joined in one country, the inhabitants of the oldest castle abandoned it at least in part, rising to inhabit our land, because it was built on the highest part of the hill. After the number of inhabitants grew, the new town gradually joined with the old castle, which may have given itself the name of Castelnuovo at the time. Meanwhile, local traditions, which must always be given great importance, want the village or district of Castelnuovo to be the oldest part of the city. "
